Sutton

Not strictly speaking to do with Sutton station directly, the couple of photographs on this page are included here as they were taken whilst the last line to Sutton was under construction, in 1928/9.

Sutton The contractor's temporary line in the cutting near Sutton Common Station. The small tipping wagons were used to move the earth from cutting to embankment. Note the temporary water tower.

A drag excavator digging the cutting at Gander Green Lane in October 1928. A big improvement from the days of navvies, picks, shovels and wheelbarrows, but positively primitive when compared with the earth moving machinery of the twentyfirst century!
