Wagon Lits Coaches

photograph by John Lewis

The Night Ferry provided a through overnight train service between Victoria and Paris/Brussels via the cross-channel ferry services. It was unique in the UK in using sleeping cars of French type belonging to Wagons-Lits, specially built to conform with the SR's loading gauge. This photo shows car 3792 built in 1936 by ANF Blanc-Misseron. It was withdrawn in 1974, restored by Wagons-Lits in 1978-9 and presented to the NRM in 1980 where it was photographed.
